A connection and commitment since 2019 with the Hutt Street Centre provides a strong vehicle for learning for our students around empathy and ‘walking a mile’ in the boots of a person experiencing homelessness.

Each year students are engaged in targeted learning programs that promote empathy and an awareness of people experiencing homelessness.

Students, staff and our school community also engage in fundraising activities and excitedly means we are able to raise around $35000 each year to support people experiencing homelessness in Adelaide.

These fundraising events include:

  • a whole school market day in the last week of Term 2 where each class holds a stall selling items including food, craft, art or holding side show activities and we invite our community to come in to join us
  • a community “Walk a Mile in my boots” morning event on the first Friday of Term 3 –this is held before school on our oval where everyone walks a “mile” and shares a yummy breakfast donated by the Rapid Relief Team.
  • on this morning we also send off the wonderful team of staff, parents and caregivers and community who bravely do a 50km long walk from Willunga to Hutt Street in the CBD to raise awareness and funds for the Hutt Street Centre. If you are interested in being a part of the long walker group please read the attached information to find out more.
